John Lewis & Waitrose, Stratford City

Forest Pennant cladding

An Olympic legacy

In 2005, when London announced their intention to bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, the John Lewis partnership became an official partner. Following that success, the Partnership was confirmed as the first retailer to invest in a multi-million pound investment in Stratford City, the heart of East London. A full John Lewis department store and a Waitrose Food Hall development that would be constructed exactly adjacent from the scheduled Olympic Park. The new store was designed by architect Crispin Wride and cost over £35 million.

The John Lewis & Waitrose Food Hall combines our Forest Pennant mixed colour cladding which is intermittently relieved by protruding prows of patterned glazing. The glazed facade showcases a ceramic, circular pattern, which was designed to symbolise the circle of regeneration in Stratford and its legacy.
